23 January 2014

A Burns themed celebration dinner took place on Thursday the 16th of January to recognise the environmental business achievements of the Winners and thank the Sponsors of the VIBES Awards 2013. The event took place in The Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI) and it kicked off in tradition with a piper greeting guests on arrival.

The event saw presentations from some of the winners of VIBES 2013 outlining the reasons they applied for the VIBES Awards and what they hoped to achieve from winning. The presentations highlighted the fantastic environmental work of the companies and emphasised the business benefits of good environmental practice.

Complementing the Burns Theme, James Macsween, from Macsween began the address to the haggis as the Chieftain was piped to the table. He recited the famous Burns poem before theatrically cutting the haggis with the ceremonial knife. The attendees then enjoyed a haggis dinner, kindly supplied by Macsween, a sponsor of this year’s awards.

The toasts were read by Ronnie Mercer of Scottish Water who provided a toast to the winners in the form of a Scots poem written by VIBES Chair Gillian Bruce; Robin Wosnip of Rabbie’s Small Group Tours followed with a toast to the sponsors and John Fender of Chivas Brothers Pernod Ricard ended with a toast to the VIBES partners. Gillian Bruce followed this with a reply from the Partners on behalf of the VIBES 2013 Steering Group.

Our thanks go out to the sponsors of the event: ECCI for hosting us, Macsweens for supplying the haggis and Chivas Brothers Pernod Ricard for supplying the whisky for the toast.

A good night was had by all who attended.
