Sibbald Limited are specialist training and assessment providers based in West Lothian. The company provide plant and equipment operator training and an assessment centre. They also provide a large variety of health and safety training and assessments conducted out-with the plant operations field. The company have identified a number of ways to improve sustainable travel including incorporating electric vehicles into the fleet, charged using an on-site wind turbine.
The Transport award recognises businesses that have achieved significant reduction in environmental impact through the introduction of sustainable transport practices.
A strong commitment has been made to reducing the environmental transportation footprint of the business. Significant investments have been made in new fuel-efficient vehicles as well as investment in electric vehicles. A transport policy is in place and in use as part of the overall site Environmental Management System which is accredited to ISO 14001:2015.
Sibbald previously operated an LPG vehicle fleet but following a review carried in conjunction with the Energy Saving Trust (EST) the move was made to electric vehicles and Euro VI vehicles. A range of recommendations were identified in the EST report and these have been actioned to improve sustainability in the transport operations.
Satellite training sites have been set up which has led to a significant reduction in overall travel associated with each training event. Trainees are encouraged to travel to site by use of public transport they are then picked up by a company minibus.
A 100kw wind turbine has been constructed which is used to power a vehicle connection point from which they charge their EVehicles. This charging point is not connected to the grid.

Employees are made aware of the link between environmental performance and economic benefit through induction and implementation training as appropriate. The relevant policy documentation and procedural protocols adopted by the company are a significant part of all inductions. Suggestion schemes are in place and are discussed and actioned where appropriate during management meetings.
