VIBES is once more working with WaterAid around a challenge: In keeping with the Hydro Nation Agenda, this challenge seeks to increase awareness of WaterAid and encourage participants to consider the global WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) challenges faced.

Who can apply?

We want to see participants from Scottish Businesses, public sector and academia putting forward ideas or products based around WASH which is either currently being used within Scotland and/or an idea or product that can be adapted for use elsewhere, such as a WaterAid project in Zambia, to solve a real life WASH problem.

How to apply?

Entries can take the form of either:

  • A technical challenge
  • A soft challenge such as a process, or WASH message

The finished product entries can take the form of a technical drawing, scale model, or video demonstration. Should participants wish to enter using a non-product based idea (soft challenge) this can take the form of print media, video or web based interface or whichever platform best showcases the concept.

What are the Hydro Nation Challenge Criteria?

The Hydro Nation Challenge gives participants a unique learning experience that encourages lateral thinking and innovation.

The product/concept will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Innovation - must provide a solution to the problem, meet the needs of the community, be innovative and bring improvement to current practices;
  • Environmental - must be energy friendly, does not require extensive technical knowledge and has to serve its purpose for a reasonable amount of time
  • Social/ethical benefits - must meet the needs of everyone in the community and bring wider social benefits
  • Economic benefit - must demonstrate that the product/service is economically viable and support economic growth

You must keep in mind WaterAid’s approach: sustainable, using local resources and maintainable.
